Exposure

Words elicit thoughts, images, and emotions on their own. Join two different words together and it conjures up different thoughts, images and emotions. These words by themselves mean exactly what is seen as they are read.

Violence

Now look at each of those same words with the word exposure connected to it.

Radiation exposure
Infant exposure
Market exposure
Exposure to heights

Exposure to violence

Exposure means much more when connected with other words. These do change the meanings and conjure up different thoughts, images, and emotions. Now you tell me where the exposure really lies is it in the word itself or in the conjoined words.
